Hi! I'm so glad you are here! I want to introduce myself on a more personal level. I know when I searched for my own therapist, I wanted to know that the person I chose had some life experience as well. My name is Krissy Thomas and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor. I am from the Orange County area. I have been married for 9 years and have two children, my son who is 2 and my daughter who is 6 years old. When I’m not working with clients I enjoy running/walking in beautiful places, spending time with my family and friends, participating in sports, painting, karaoke, baking/cooking, and laughing. I went to California State University, Long Beach for two years and then transferred to Utah Valley University, where I completed my bachelor's degree. I was a collegiate track and field athlete competing in the 100m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. I faced several hurdles not only on the track but also in my personal life. These hurdles are what eventually influenced my passion for therapy and the decision to become a therapist myself.
In high school I was diagnosed with ADHD. I experienced difficulties with impulsive behavior, relationship turmoil, substance abuse, self-sabotage and other comorbid issues. In my early adulthood, I struggled through a series of abusive relationships, low self-worth, and a cycle of unhealthy patterns. With the help of a therapist, I learned to break the cycle, gain confidence and insight, and find the support that I needed to not only pursue my master's degree in counseling, but to also begin the challenging journey of motherhood and marriage.
Each of us struggles through varying degrees of trauma and/or challenges in life. My goal is to provide a safe place where you can explore thoughts, feelings, experiences, and sometimes just unload difficulties that may be weighing on you. Oftentimes, there are connections between our past and present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that we are not aware of. Together, we will explore these connections, identify your patterns, and conquer these struggles, leaving you feeling stronger when the next hurdle in life presents itself.
I enjoyed working for a nonprofit in Costa Mesa called Living Success Center for 2 years, providing psychotherapy to individuals and their families. I then worked in a group practice located in San Juan Capistrano for 3 years before deciding to transition into private practice. I have experience working with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, gender dysphoria, bipolar, parenting challenges, ADHD, relationship difficulties, substance abuse, emotional abuse, low self-esteem, trauma, and life transitions to name a few. I am now currently working with all my clients online through virtual video sessions since moving out of California to Texas. I look forward to hearing from you and working together to create a happier and healthier life.
